Description

Combines crispy Texas toast with a savory sloppy joe mixture for a delicious twist on a classic comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices frozen Texas toast garlic bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and bake the Texas toast garlic bread on a baking sheet according to package instructions until golden and crisp.
  2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  3. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the sloppy joe sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over each slice of baked Texas toast. Top each with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Return the assembled toasts to the oven and bake for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.

Notes

For a healthier option, use lean ground beef or substitute with turkey or chicken. Add spices for more flavor.
