Description
Delicious flavors of a classic burger in an easy-to-eat Sloppy Joe form, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup steak sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until caramelized, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the steak sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
- Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns on a skillet or in the oven until golden brown.
- Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns, top with cheddar cheese if desired, and cover with the top halves of the buns. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, use lentils or black beans instead of ground beef. Adjust seasonings to your taste.
