Description

Delicious flavors of a classic burger in an easy-to-eat Sloppy Joe form, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup steak sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add the chopped onions and cook until caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the steak sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns on a skillet or in the oven until golden brown.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns, top with cheddar cheese if desired, and cover with the top halves of the buns. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use lentils or black beans instead of ground beef. Adjust seasonings to your taste.
