Description

A delicious comfort food that combines classic meatloaf with creamy mac and cheese in a hearty casserole.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups uncooked macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 2 tbsp flour


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, 1/4 cup of milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Press the meat mixture into a greased baking dish.
  4. Bake the meatloaf for 20 minutes.
  5. While the meatloaf is baking, cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain and set aside.
  6. To make the cheese sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour and let cook for one minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and dry mustard. Stir in shredded cheese until melted.
  8. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and pour over the meatloaf.
  9. Top with the remaining cheese and bake for an additional 25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
