Description

A robust casserole combining savory Italian sausage and tender broccoli, packed with flavors and herbs for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage (spicy or sweet)
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the Italian sausage until fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. While the sausage cooks, wash and chop the broccoli into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Once the sausage is browned, add the chopped broccoli to the skillet and stir to combine.
  5. Season the mixture with garlic powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  6. Transfer the sausage and broccoli mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the mixture.
  8. If using, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil and sprinkle them over the cheese for added texture.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

For added freshness, garnish with parsley or basil before serving.
