A robust casserole combining savory Italian sausage and tender broccoli, packed with flavors and herbs for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage (spicy or sweet)
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the Italian sausage until fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
- While the sausage cooks, wash and chop the broccoli into bite-sized pieces.
- Once the sausage is browned, add the chopped broccoli to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Season the mixture with garlic powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Transfer the sausage and broccoli mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the mixture.
- If using, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil and sprinkle them over the cheese for added texture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added freshness, garnish with parsley or basil before serving.
