Description

A striking and delicious appetizer featuring mozzarella skulls, roasted cherry tomatoes, and black pesto for your Halloween gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 6 ounces fresh mozzarella pearls
  • 1 demi baguette
  • ½ cup basil pesto
  • Gel food coloring (black)
  • 12 ounces cherry tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Fresh basil
  • Balsamic vinegar glaze


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and place the silicone skull mold on a baking sheet.
  2. Fill the molds with mozzarella pearls and bake for 6 to 7 minutes until melted.
  3. Press melted mozzarella into molds and let cool.
  4. Raise oven temperature to 475°F, halve cherry tomatoes, and place cut side down on a baking sheet.
  5. Drizzle tomatoes with olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Roast for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Slice the baguette into ½-inch pieces and toast in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Mix pesto with black food coloring to desired shade.
  8. Spread black pesto on toasted bread, return to oven for another 8 to 10 minutes until edges are golden.
  9. Top each piece of bread with roasted tomatoes and mozzarella skulls.
  10. Serve on a platter drizzled with balsamic glaze and garnish with fresh basil.
