Description
A simple and delicious beef stroganoff recipe that’s perfect for comfort food cravings without the fuss.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup sour cream
- Cooked egg noodles or rice for serving
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Season the beef slices generously with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches, searing until just browned but not cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining butter, onions, and garlic. Sauté until the onions become translucent. Add the mushrooms and let them brown, allowing all that moisture to evaporate.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Return the beef to the skillet and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the beef is heated through. Remove from heat and blend in the sour cream until the sauce is smooth and velvety.
- Spoon the beef stroganoff over cooked egg noodles or rice. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
Notes
Ensure to season the beef well for maximum flavor. This dish can also be made ahead of time and reheated gently.
