A comforting casserole packed with cheesy tortellini and savory ground beef, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 20 oz refrigerated cheese tortellini
- 4 oz cream cheese, room temperature and cubed
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until dark brown and crispy, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add the finely diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent and soft.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 60 seconds until fragrant.
- Lower the heat to medium and add marinara sauce, cream cheese, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir for about 3 minutes until creamy.
- Fold in the cheese tortellini, and if thick, add 1/4 cup of water.
- Pour the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
- Top with mozzarella and parmesan cheese, ensuring it’s evenly covered.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- If desired, broil for 2 minutes for added browning.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
Feel free to substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken, and adjust the pasta type as needed. This casserole also freezes well.
