Description

A comforting Italian dish combining cheesy tortellini, savory sausage, and vibrant broccoli in a creamy garlic sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 package cheese tortellini (about 20 oz)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add Italian sausage, breaking it up into crumbles, and cook until browned. Transfer cooked sausage to a plate and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about one minute.
  4. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in parmesan cheese until melted, then season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  5. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook tortellini according to package instructions. Add broccoli for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
  6. Drain tortellini and broccoli, then add them to the skillet with the creamy sauce and sausage. Toss gently to combine.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with extra parmesan and cracked black pepper.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
