A comforting Italian dish combining cheesy tortellini, savory sausage, and vibrant broccoli in a creamy garlic sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 package cheese tortellini (about 20 oz)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add Italian sausage, breaking it up into crumbles, and cook until browned. Transfer cooked sausage to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about one minute.
- Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in parmesan cheese until melted, then season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
- Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook tortellini according to package instructions. Add broccoli for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
- Drain tortellini and broccoli, then add them to the skillet with the creamy sauce and sausage. Toss gently to combine.
- Serve hot, garnished with extra parmesan and cracked black pepper.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
