A rich and visually striking chocolate cake perfect for Halloween celebrations, decorated with spooky toppings.
Ingredients
- 120g chopped dark chocolate
- 100g butter
- 1 and 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee
- A good pinch of salt
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons chocolate powder
- 1 tablespoon butter (for frosting)
- A pinch of salt (for frosting)
- Maria cookies
- Chocolate cookies (without filling)
- 1 tablespoon melted chocolate (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour your cake pan.
- Melt the chopped dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, stirring constantly until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
- Add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, blending well.
- In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the boiling water mixed with instant coffee.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for approximately 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the brigadeiro frosting by combining the sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Once the cake has baked and cooled, remove it from the pan and place it on a serving plate.
- Spread the brigadeiro frosting generously over the top and sides of the cake.
- For decoration, use Maria cookies and chocolate cookies to create spooky shapes and faces on the cake. Drizzle melted chocolate on top for an added effect.
