Description

A classic comfort food, this Cheesy & Creamy Baked Mac and Cheese is perfect for family dinners and potlucks. Rich in flavor with a blend of three cheeses, it’s creamy, cheesy, and easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni (about 3 cups)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring consistently until the mixture thickens and is smooth, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses until melted. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper.
  6. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, then pour it into the prepared baking dish. Top with panko breadcrumbs if desired.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the sauce is bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting. For added flavor, consider mixing in vegetables or different cheese varieties.
