Indulge in the rich flavors of Authentic Birria Tacos, featuring tender beef simmered in a fragrant, spicy sauce, all wrapped in soft corn tortillas.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck roast
- 2 cups beef broth
- 3 dried guajillo chiles
- 2 dried ancho chiles
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Corn tortillas
- Shredded cheese
- Chopped onions
- Fresh cilantro
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Toast the dried chiles in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Soak the chiles in hot water for 15 minutes to soften.
- Blend the soaked chiles, onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, and beef broth until smooth.
- Season the beef with salt and pepper, place in a slow cooker, and cover with the blended sauce and remaining broth. Cook on low for 8 hours until tender.
- Shred the beef and mix it back into the sauce.
- Heat corn tortillas in a skillet, fill with beef mixture, and top with cheese, onions, and cilantro.
- Serve with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
For added spice, consider including dried arbol chiles. Adjust seasoning to taste.
