Delightful bars combining apple crisp and buttery shortbread, perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 large apples, peeled and diced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Cream together butter, flour, granulated sugar, and salt until crumbly. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the shortbread base.
- In another bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Spread this mixture evenly over the shortbread base.
- Add oats and pecans to the remaining shortbread mixture, stir to combine, and sprinkle evenly over the apple layer.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
Best served at room temperature, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For nut-free, omit pecans.
