Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs (cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Oil spray
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (finely grated)
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons white pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • A small handful of basil (sliced)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Sliced hot peppers (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with garlic, ginger, brown sugar, salt, and white pepper in a large bowl for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, prepare the spice mix with the remaining spices.
  3. Coat the marinated chicken with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overlap.
  5. Spray generously with oil and cook at 350°F for 10 minutes.
  6. Flip the chicken, spray again with oil, increase temperature to 400°F and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Transfer to a bowl, sprinkle with half the spice mix, toss gently, and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Garnish with basil and hot peppers, serve immediately with lemon wedges.
